The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Federal Land Highways are developing Long Range Transportation Plans (LRTP) to make the best use of available transportation funds to meet the goals of the National Wildlife Refuge System. The plans are consistent with planning by state transportation departments and metropolitan planning councils; they will also be integrated with Comprehensive Conservation Plans on each refuge. The LRTPs will also contribute to planning for climate change.
The LRTP for the Alaska Region (Region 7) is being developed as a multi-agency LRTP with the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management together withthe Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
