We need your help with Refuge specific projects to help us complete projects that were not completed due to the occupation. Many of these opportunities are listed below. If you are interested in volunteering with one of the projects listed, please RSVP or sign up using the email address listed with the specific project. You can also leave your contact information at malheur_volunteer@fws.gov if you would like general information about volunteering. We are accepting volunteer applications under our Volunteer Program for 2017.

• U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Statement on the Jury Verdict in the Malheur Refuge Occupation Trial

  While we are profoundly disappointed in the outcome of the trial, we are eager to move forward. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is committed to the security, healing and comfort of our Malheur National Wildlife Refuge employees and the Harney County communities they serve, and to continue strengthening the collaborations and positive relationships cited throughout this trial.

• Refuge Headquarters Remains Closed

  May 23, 2016

  Refuge Headquarters, including the Visitor Center/Nature Store, museum and grounds remain closed to the public. Buildings and grounds are active work sites and are closed for safety reasons. We are pleased to open other portions of the refuge to visitors and we are working on a re-opening celebration for Refuge Headquarters set for the late summer/early fall. The Center Patrol Road (auto tour route) and Krumbo Reservoir are open to the public. Brochures and general information are available on this website and at all entrances to the refuge. • 2016-2017 Hunting Changes

  Waterfowl hunting will not be allowed on Malheur Lake this year because of low water conditions. At it's current level of just 4,000 acres all water is outside of the north and south Malheur Lake Hunt Units. Waterfowl hunting is now permitted in the Buena Vista Unit. Check current hunting regulations for limits.

  Hunting at Malheur Refuge

• No Carp Fishing This Year

  The Refuge will not be hosting a carp fishing event on the Blitzen River at headquarters this fall.
