In 1986, the U.S. and China established the U.S.-China Nature Conservation Protocol in order to conserve species
and their habitats. Under the Protocol, the two countries agree to establish and manage protected natural areas for conservation of wildlife and habitats, regulate trade of endangered species, and participate in cooperative research
and management projects. 

In 1972, the U.S. and Japan signed the Convention for the Protection of Migratory Birds and Birds in Danger of
Extinction, and Their Environment. The Convention addresses the conservation of migratory birds in the U.S., its
territories, and Japan. 

For more than 45 years, USFWS - Russia program has worked with Russian conservationists to share wildlife management best-practices and jointly conducting scientific studies. The program has also supported Russia’s nature reserves (“zapovedniks”) and national parks through a competitive grants program which has provided infrastructure support and capacity building for park managers in the remote habitats.
