Program
The meeting program will cover all transportation modes, with more than 5,000 presentations in over 800 sessions and workshops, addressing topics of interest to policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions. A number of sessions and workshops will focus on the spotlight theme for the 2017 meeting: Transportation Innovation: Leading the Way in an Era of Rapid Change.

Special Events
Welcome and Attendee Orientation Session
Sunday, January 8, 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Whether you’re a first-time attendee or a long-time veteran of the TRB Annual Meeting, you are invited to come and learn how to make the most of your time at the meeting. Offered are a brief overview of TRB, tips on navigating the meeting and on networking during the meeting, the role TRB can play in career development, and ways to become involved in TRB activities and committees. This is an opportunity for you to meet other attendees and TRB leaders from similar areas of interest. Refreshments will be provided.
Exhibit Hall Opening Reception
Sunday, January 8, 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Visit the nearly 200 exhibits, including the TRB booth, showcasing a wide range of transportation-related products and services. This popular reception includes light hors d’oeuvres and cash bars.
International Participants Reception
Sunday, January 8, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Meeting delegates are invited
to an international networking reception to reconnect with colleagues and make
new acquaintances. Light hors d'oeuvres will be offered, and a cash bar will be
available.
Young Professionals Reception
Sunday, January 8, 9:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
Co-hosted by the TRB Young Members Council (YMC) and Young Professionals in Transportation (YPT), this networking reception is open to all young professionals and supporters to discuss career development and to meet peers from around the country. Light refreshments will be served, and a cash bar will be available.
Thomas B. Deen Distinguished Lecture and Presentations of Awards
Monday, January 9, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
The Deen Distinguished Lectureship Award recognizes the career contributions and achievements of an individual in areas covered by the Transportation Research Board's Technical Activities Division. Bruce M. Smith, Esquire, Member, Apperson Crump PLC, Memphis, Tennessee; and General Counsel, Memphis Area Transit Authority is the 2017 recipient of the lectureship. He will be presenting his lecture, titled "Ethical Issues Facing Today's Transportation Agencies: Transparency and Security, Codes of Conduct, and Ethical Considerations of Public-Private Partnerships."
Chairman's Luncheon
Wednesday, January 11, Noon – 2:00 p.m.
Dr. Jaiwon Shin, Associate Administrator for NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate, will be the featured speaker at the 2017 Chairman's Luncheon. Dr. Shin manages the agency’s aeronautics research portfolio and guides its strategic direction. The portfolio includes research in the fundamental aeronautics of flight, aviation safety, and the nation’s airspace system. The Chairman’s Luncheon is the premier event of the Annual Meeting, drawing an audience of 750 leaders in transportation from the public and private sectors throughout the United States and abroad. The program includes the introduction of new Executive Committee members and officers, as well as presentation of TRB’s most prestigious awards. A separate fee and ticket is required for the lunch. Gallery seating is available at no charge, beginning at 12:45 p.m.
