Overview

The Neosho National Fish Hatchery established in 1888, is the oldest operating Federal Fish Hatchery in the U.S. Neosho was chosen for the hatchery site because of access to spring water and the railroad. Neosho National Fish Hatchery provides recovery efforts for endangered Pallid Sturgeon, protection for endangered Ozark Cavefish, recovery efforts for threatened or endangered Native Mussels, provide restoration efforts for candidate species, Lake Sturgeon, restoration efforts for candidate species, Paddlefish, and mandated mitigation of Rainbow Trout for Lake Taneycomo, MO.
