Why It Matters

The census is the foundation of our democracy. Data collected during the census is critical for helping guide how many dollars in federal assistance Oregon will receive over the next 10 years to fund our schools, hospitals and roads. It also determines the number of seats our state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives to lift the voices of Oregonians in Washington D.C.

A complete and accurate census count tells the story of Oregon — who we are and where we are going. From Tillamook to Ontario, Astoria to Klamath Falls, full participation in the upcoming census is vital to the prosperity of our communities. Make yourself count in 2020!

When is the Census?

Beginning in mid-March of 2020, households across Oregon started to receive mailings from the U.S. Census Bureau asking them to participate in the census. For the first time in history, the decennial census will primarily be conducted online however, every household will still have the option of responding by phone or mail. Each household will be asked to provide information about the people who reside in that household “most of the time” as of April 1, 2020, the official Census Day. October 15th is the last day to complete your 2020 Census!

Get Involved

In order for Oregon to receive its fair share of federal funding and congressional representation, we need every single person that lives in our state to be counted. But counting over 4 million people across 36 counties is no easy task, which is why we need your help to accomplish our goal. You can make a difference!

Need Help?

Census Assistance Centers (CACs) are safe spaces where anyone can get support with filling out their 2020 Census form. Most CACs will be operating from April through July of 2020, with varying hours so Oregonians have flexibility in finding time to fill out their census.

Additionally, many Oregon libraries can provide information and public computers to assist with completing 2020 Census forms.
