The Division of Partner Readiness and Emergency Programs (PREP) within the ASPR Office of Emergency Management connects ASPR with its partners across the country and around the world. PREP Division staff support both federal partners and partners at the state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) levels in preparing for, mitigating, and responding to public health emergencies and disasters. The Division supports HHS, interagency and international partners across the preparedness and response continuum to address the health and medical consequences of manmade and natural incidents.
Before a disaster strikes, PREP Division personnel work with partners in all ten federal regions across the United States to explain the kinds of support that ASPR can provide in an emergency. PREP Division personnel work to better understand the health threats that face their counterparts throughout the country, maintain situational awareness of disaster health issues, and build resilience. Within the PREP Division, the Medical Reserve Corps, a network of almost 200,000 volunteers, helps to build community health resilience before a disaster strikes.
During a disaster response, members of the PREP Division serve as the primary interface with federal partners, the state and local authorities. PREP Division personnel continue to provide support as the community recovers.
