Legislative Summit Coming this Saturday

10 15 12 Leg Symp May 2012 CageA reminder for this coming Saturday, NOVS Executive Director Caleb Cage will host the Veterans Legislative Summit in Tonopah from 9a-4p at the Tonopah Convention Center. In May 2012, the NOVS held a Legislative Summit inviting veteran groups and leaders from around the state to discuss veteran issues and prepare for the upcoming 2013 legislative session. Research and bill planning have been in the works since May. This will be the opportunity for the veteran community to learn and organize plans to support legislation concerning veteran issues.  Reno Bighorns Offering Military Discounts

The Bighorns, Reno's NBA D League basketball team, will once again offer veteran and military discounts for veterans to its basketball showcase January 7-10, featuring 16 games of action. Learn More - Get Tickets.  

New Combat Veterans Support Group in Elko

Combat Veterans in Elko now have two support group meetings each month which they can attend and talk about issues. Meetings are held the fourth Monday and Tuesday each month at the Elko VFW Post 2350 located at 731 VFW Dr. Anyone interested in this free counseling or the support group can call this office for more information, 775-777-1000.

The Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS) presented December's Veteran of the Month award to Danny Waldrop on behalf of Governor Brian Sandoval at a ceremony on Monday, December 3. “Mr. Waldrop epitomizes the veteran volunteer in our community,” said NOVS Executive Director Caleb Cage.  Governor Accepts Grant for Southern Veteran Cemetery11 30 12 gov - muro

The Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery received a $5 million Monday from the Department of Veterans Affairs for improvements and expansion during a reception at the cemetery in Boulder City, NV. Governor Brian Sandoval accepted the check from the Honorable Steve Muro, Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs at the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Read More.

IFC Approves New VSO positions for Las Vegas and Southern Nevada.

The Interim Finance Committee (IFC) approved funding today for the hiring of two new Veteran Service Officers for the Las Vegas and southern Nevada areas. The two positions are part of an overall plan re-aligning the Nevada Office of Veteran Services (NOVS) outreach effort and will be part of the Veterans Advocacy and Support Team (VAST). Read More.

Governor Sandoval celebrates 10th Anniversary of Nevada State Veterans Home

Sandoval Signs Executive Order Creating Interagency Council On Veterans Affairs

Tuesday July 3, 2012 - Governor Brian Sandoval today signed Executive Order 2012-15, establishing the Governor’s Interagency Council on Veterans Affairs.

“Over the last decade, our country has been engaged in military conflicts around the globe and veterans returning to our state from these conflicts face significant hardships while transitioning back into civilian life,” Governor Brian Sandoval said.  “It is incumbent upon us as a society to provide the best level of service we can to our veterans and increased formalization of the State’s approach to coordination between existing efforts is necessary and important.” Read More.

For over 65 years we have been dedicated to helping Nevada veterans get the services, benefits and quality of life they deserve. With over 339,000 veterans living in our state, they rely on us to not only understand their lives, but to help them get a better quality of life. We do everything we can to show our American Heroes the same amount of respect, empathy, gratitude and service that they have shown us.

At the Nevada Office of Veteran Services we focus on being advocates for veteran benefits.  Throughout the State of Nevada, we offer a variety of services and benefits. Our Nevada State Veterans Home is located in Boulder City, Nevada and provides a home with specialized care, compassion and assistance. We also offer burial services with military honors at our memorial cemeteries located in both Northern and Southern Nevada. At the Nevada Office of Veterans Services we care about providing Nevada veterans and their families with services and benefits for a better life.
