STREAMS

In the last few decades we have seen increasing interest in enhancing, restoring, and protecting the ecology of streams and watersheds.
By reducing the amount of initial engineering, these practices incorporate stream geomorphology concepts in channel design in favor of assisting nature in developing a more self-sustaining system.
To achieve these goals will require sound fundamental and applied knowledge, close interaction between scientists and engineers, a systems approach, and a good understanding of spatial and temporal scales.
Therefore, there is a need for educational initiatives, such as this website, that improve communication across disciplines and provide the timely delivery of knowledge and data on stream processes, watersheds, and design concepts.
