NAVAL BASE CORONADO
COMMANDING OFFICER'S
ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY STATEMENT

All personnel aboard Naval Base Coronado installations, while carrying out their mission, shall be committed to protection of our environmental resources.  NBC commands shall:

    COMPLY WITH ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Comply with all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental, cultural, and natural resources statutes and regulations, as well as the requirements of Presidential Executive Orders.
  • Adhere to all Department of the Navy and Department of Defense policies, regulations, and requirements.
  • Create a culture that is always mindful of its impacts on the environment and that strives to continually lessen any negative environmental impacts.
  • Maintain their competency of environmental requirements by taking online training and attending environmental compliance training sessions.
  • Obtain all necessary Federal, State, and Local environmental permits for the construction and operation of facilities and ranges and always operate within the bounds of all permit conditions.
  • Cooperate with Federal, State, County and Navy environmental regulatory officials.
  • Integrate environmental, cultural, and natural resources requirements into all levels of activity management through the application of environmental management and adaptive management techniques, to include oversight, inspection, identification, and improvement.

SUSTAINABILITY GOALS

  • Eliminate or minimize pollutants to the maximum extent feasible, by executing pollutant source reduction measures and incorporating pollution prevention techniques at the earliest stages of planning, design, and procurement.
  • Encourage the responsible use of energy and water by educating workforce on conservation techniques and by procuring environmentally friendly products.
  • Achieve a 50% diversion rate for non-hazardous solid waste by prioritizing recycling programs.
  • Increase the use of sustainable resources to modernize new and existing infrastructure by incorporating Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Low Impact Development (LID), and green energy technologies into new construction projects.
  • Work towards achieving the following environmental performance goals outlined by E.O. 13423:
    • Reduce water consumption by 2% annually.
    • Reduce energy intensity by 3% annually.
    • Reduce petroleum consumption in fleet vehicles by 2% annually.
    • Reduce the quantity of toxic and hazardous chemicals and materials acquired, used, or disposed by base.
    • Increase use of alternative fuel consumption by 10% annually.
