Director, Navy Band Northwest

Lieutenant Bruce Mansfield is a native of Phoenix, Arizona. He holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in music performance from Duquesne University.

Mansfield enlisted in the Navy August 2001.  Upon completion of Recruit Training at RTC Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Musician “A” School at the Navy School of Music in Little Creek, Virginia.  His first assignment was to Navy Band Southwest in San Diego, California, where he served as Unit Leader of the Brass Quintet and Bass Trombonist with the Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble.

In 2006, he reported to SIXTH Fleet Band in Naples, Italy, and in January 2007, became a plank owner of the newly-formed, 75-member, U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band.  During his tour, he served in a variety of leadership positions.  His tour included numerous deployments to 44 countries throughout Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia. 

While deployed aboard HSV-2 SWIFT in support of Africa Partnership Station, he was selected for a commission as a Navy Bandmaster.  Upon completion of Limited Duty Officer/Chief Warrant Officer Indoctrination in Newport, Rhode Island in October 2010, he reported to the U.S. Naval Academy Band as the Assistant Director.  In 2012 Mansfield reported to U.S. Navy Band Washington D.C. as Concert Ceremonial department head.  He reported July 2014 as Director Navy Band Northwest. 

His military decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards).
