Captain Jack Freeman is a native of Virginia Beach, Va., graduated from Radford University in 1990 and was commissioned in 1991 after completing Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Fla.  He was designated a Naval Flight Officer in 1992.

Freeman joined the Diamondbacks of VF-102 in 1993.  He made two deployments aboard USS AMERICA (CV 66) supporting Operations SOUTHERN WATCH and DENY FLIGHT.  Following his tour with VF-102, Freeman was selected to attend Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), where he served as an instructor from 1997 to 2000.  Freeman returned to VF-102 in 2000 for his Training Officer tour and deployed aboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) from 2001 to 2002 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  He then reported to VF-143 for his Department Head tour, where he served as Operations Officer and Maintenance Officer.  While assigned to VF-143, he deployed to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar and aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. 

Following his Department Head tour, Freeman attended the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., and received a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.  From 2005 to 2007, he served on the Joint Staff in Washington, D.C., in the Operations Directorate. In 2007, he reported to Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific in Lemoore, Calif., and assumed command in 2009.  From 2010 to 2012, he served as Air Boss aboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) where he received the peer-selected Commander, Naval Air Forces Leadership Award for 2011.

From 2012 to 2014, Freeman served as the Executive Officer at Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center supporting more than 8,000 Individual Augmentee Sailors throughout their training, deployments, and redeployments.

He has accumulated over 2,800 flight hours and over 500 arrested landings.
