  1. Question: I’m going to school and have heard I have to verify my attendance. Is that true?

The answer is…maybe. Here’s the deal:

If you receive MGIB or REAP, you will have to verify your attendance. To do this you can use the Web Automa...ted Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) system or call our toll-free Interactive Voice Response telephone line at 1-877-VA-ECERT (1-877-823-2378) to let us know you attended school. This is important because your verification triggers the release of your payment.

If you're enrolled in a college degree program and receiving the Post-9/11 GI Bill, VEAP, or DEA benefits, you don't need to verify your attendance. If you receive DEA and are in a non-college degree program, you can verify your attendance by calling 1-888-GI BILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) or by using the “Submit a Question” button at www.gibill.va.gov.

Over 3,000 schools throughout the nation currently participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program. Check out the link below for more information!

  4. Spring semester is now underway for many GI Bill beneficiaries. To help expedite the claims process, make sure you have filled out all the necessary paperwork and that your school has verified your enrollment. This is crucial since we can't process any payments until the school has submitted the appropriate documents!

Starting on Memorial Day 2013, the retailer says it will begin issuing job offers to any Veteran that has been honorably discharged and is within their first twelve mont...hs off active duty. 7. Will Your Monthly Housing Allowance Change?

As you may know, the Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) payments you receive for the Post-9/11 GI Bill are based on the military's Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) rates for an E-5 with dependents. The Department of Defense adjusts the military BAH rate every calendar year (or January 1) based on changes to housing costs across the country. Rates can eith...er go up or down.

Public Law 111 - 377 (the Veterans Educational Assistance Improvement Act of 2010) amended the effective date for the adjustment of the MHA you receive under the Post-9/11 GI Bill from the beginning of the calendar year (January 1) to the beginning of the academic year (August 1).

If the BAH increased for your area, you will not see an increase until your September 2013 payment for training pursued in August. If the BAH decreases for your area, your MHA amount will not decrease unless you change schools or have more than a six-month break in training.
