On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at approximately 9:30 A.M. MST., U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents from the El Paso Sector initiated a vehicle stop on a silver Chevrolet Impala attempting to circumvent a U.S. Border Patrol immigration checkpoint located on HWY 185 near Las Cruces, New Mexico, where the vehicle failed to yield.  The vehicle pursuit began and a male suspect fired multiple gunshots at agents. Agents returned fire.

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz.—On November 13,  a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Air and Marine Operations (AMO), Unmanned Aircraft System experienced a mishap upon landing at Libby Army Airfield, Ft. Huachuca, AZ.  The aircraft struck a threshold barrier on the runway. The aircraft caught fire, coming to a full stop on the runway. The fire department extinguished the fire and secured the aircraft, no injuries have been reported. Initial damage assessment of the aircraft is extensive. A CBP AMO Accident Investigation Team has been activated as per CBP policy.

On November 10, 2020, at approximately noon, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Border Patrol agent was involved in a use of force incident in a remote area in northern Webb County. An agent assigned to the Laredo North Station was working his assigned duties when he encountered a suspected illegal alien. While attempting to make an arrest, a confrontation ensued, ultimately leading to the agent discharging his service weapon. The subject was struck and medical aid was administered.

CALEXICO, California -- At approximately 8:40 p.m., Friday evening, a U.S. Border Patrol agent assigned to the Calexico Border Patrol Station responded to the illegal entry of individuals into the United States from Mexico.  Initial reporting indicates that as the agent responded to the area in his vehicle, he was unable to avoid colliding with an individual laying in the road.  The agent immediately rendered aid to the injured individual until the arrival of emergency medical services.

Shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020 a vehicle failed to stop for secondary inspection at the Interstate 35 U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint. The driver bailed out of the vehicle, ran across the median and was struck by a southbound vehicle and is deceased. Traffic in both directions is temporarily halted. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Border Patrol agents, working in partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Webb County Constable’s Office, Precinct 2, responded to reports of possible human smuggling activity near Green and Smith Streets.  There, the agents encountered a tractor-trailer with illegal aliens loaded inside. As agents began to secure the scene, another vehicle with more illegal aliens arrived.

At approximately 10 p.m., on Oct 23, United States Border Patrol agents assigned to Laredo Sector and other law enforcement agencies investigating a significant human smuggling case were involved in a shooting incident on Green Street in Laredo, Texas. Statement from Aaron Heitke, Chief Patrol Agent for the U.S. Border Patrol, San Diego Sector:

At approximately 5:45 p.m., on Oct. 23, a United States Border Patrol Agent assigned to the San Diego Sector was involved in the on-duty shooting of a subject close to the international border near the Las Americas Premium Outlets.  At approximately 6:25 p.m., responding emergency medical services pronounced the subject deceased.  This is an ongoing investigation.  Further updates will follow as they become available.

LORDSBURG, N.M. – Last night, Friday October 2, 2020, at approximately 9:50 p.m., a U.S. Border Patrol agent assigned to the Lordsburg Station encountered a vehicle involved in human smuggling.  The agent attempted a vehicle stop along Highway 80 and the driver of the vehicle failed to yield, assaulting the agent with the vehicle.  The agent reportedly discharged his service-issued weapon at the driver to stop the threat.  The driver absconded in the vehicle and is currently at large.  U.S.

"On Sunday afternoon at the Peace Bridge port of entry in Buffalo, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers encountered a driver who stopped her vehicle in the pre-primary area, and did not pull forward to report for inspection. Officers responded to the vehicle and engaged the driver. The individual, identified as Pascale Cecile Veronique Ferrier, told officers she was wanted by the FBI for mailing envelopes with ricin to the White House and other locations.

On September 21, 2020, at approximately 7:00 p.m., a Border Patrol Agent patrolling on foot east of Nogales, Arizona, arrested a group of illegal aliens and subsequently came under assault by one of the individuals who was armed with a knife.  The Border Patrol Agent sustained multiple stab wounds, but was able to fire his sidearm and fatally shot the assailant.  The agent was airlifted from the scene by CBP Air Operations to the Nogales Airport to meet an air ambulance.  From there, he was flown to a hospital in Tucson, Arizona and treated for his wounds.

A Tucson Sector Border Patrol Agent was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Border Corruption Task Force (BCTF) late in the afternoon of August 9, 2020. The agent was taken into custody for suspicion of narcotics trafficking.   U.S Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Professional Responsibility participated in this investigation and the operation.
