This 2016 study uses calendar year 2011 point-of-sale transaction data from a leading grocery retailer to examine the food choices of SNAP and non-SNAP households 

This report, the latest in an annual series dating back to 1976, provides information about the demographic and economic circumstances of SNAP households. 

The objectives of this study were to: Assess how food security and food expenditures vary with SNAP participation.

An estimated 11.8 percent of American households were food insecure at least some time during the year in 2017, meaning they lacked access to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members. That is down from 12.3 percent in 2016.
