Library

Welcome to the U.S. Mint’s digital coin library! Here you can learn about the different coins the Mint makes at our facilities across the country.

Circulating Coins

A circulating coin is used in daily life as money. Circulating coins show the faces of famous people, most of them U.S. presidents. Today, half dollars and $1 coins are produced as collectibles. However, they may still be used as money.

Current Coin Programs

Have you noticed that some of your quarters have different designs on them? Congress allows the Mint to make coins with different designs to help inspire interest in coin collecting. Learn about the Mint’s current circulating coin programs.

Past Programs

Since the 1970s, the Mint has completed several circulating coin programs. You might notice some of these older designs in your pocket change!

Other Coin and Medal Programs

Did you know the Mint also makes coins and medals to collect rather than spend? Both commemorative coins and medals honor famous people, places, and events.
