Brighter Beginnings

Brighter Beginnings has stepped up support for its patients, clients, and the larger community during this COVID-19 pandemic crisis. From in-home visits that now require PPEs to higher demand for virtual home visits to an increased demand for diapers and food, the organization's resources are strained. Women Building the Bay

Twenty-eight women enrolled in Rising Sun Center for Opportunity's Women Building the Bay's 10-week training program were counting on a construction career to sustain themselves and their families. With their training interrupted by COVID-19, the program is seeking additional funds. To support these women, go here.

East Oakland Collective

The East Oakland Collective is invested in serving the communities of deep East Oakland by working towards racial and economic equity. They are seeking volunteers and donations as they work to provide food and supplies to vulnerable populations across Oakland (unhoused individuals, seniors, people with disabilities, people with pre-existing health conditions) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

American Red Cross

The COVID-19 Regional Response Fund

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Regional Response Fund works with partners in the 10-county Bay Area region to provide housing/shelter, food, clothing, and financial assistance to those without health insurance or sick days, communities of color, and healthcare and gig workers.

Berkeley Relief Fund

The City of Berkeley recently approved $3 million in emergency relief grants for small businesses, nonprofit arts organizations, and worker rent support. The hope is that the community will match this amount for those in need. See how you can help.

Oakland Fund for Public Innovation

The Oakland COVID-19 Relief Fund will provide immediate grants to nonprofit organizations working on the frontlines. The Fund will focus on four priority areas: food, homelessness, community health, and economic security.

United Way Bay Area

United Way Bay Area’s COVID-19 Relief Fund seeks donations. The fund provides immediate and long-term recovery assistance in eight local counties. It supports the basic needs of families and workers affected by the economic effects of the COVID-19 prevention measures.

FOOD

East Bay Feed ER

East Bay Feed ER purchases meals from local, independently-owned restaurants, all of which are struggling because of the coronavirus social distancing rules. The meals are then delivered to five East Bay hospitals. This is an all-volunteer effort with no overhead. To volunteer or donate, go here. Donations are tax-deductible.

Dorothy Day House - Double Helping Hands

The Dorothy Day House (DDH), in partnership with the Downtown Berkeley Association (DBA), is initiating the “Double Helping Hands” program, contracting with local restaurants to provide to-go meals for homeless communities in Downtown Berkeley. To learn more and donate, go here.

Alameda County Community Food Bank

The Alameda County Community Food Bank is increasing production of emergency food bags that contain a few days’ worth of nourishing staples. It is seeking volunteers and donations; it is taking safety precautions to ensure the safety of clients, volunteers, partners, staff, and the community.

UC Berkeley Food Pantry

The UC Berkeley Food Pantry provides emergency relief to help students and staff at the University of California. It is seeking donations.

San Francisco-Marin Food Bank

The SF-Marin Food Bank is actively opening pop-up pantries across SF and Marin to accommodate large numbers of people who have lost access to food due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also has seven pantries at schools that are offering to-go meals and groceries for students and their families. The food bank is seeking volunteers and donations.


Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano

The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano Counties is seeking volunteers and donations. Volunteers must not display any symptoms of being sick or be living with anyone who is sick; group sizes are limited to allow for social distancing during each shift.


Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels delivers meals to home-bound seniors, keeping this vulnerable population safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Meals on Wheels of Alameda County, Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa, Peninsula Volunteers – Meals on Wheels, Meals on Wheels San Francisco all are seeking volunteers and donations.


Second Harvest of Silicon Valley

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is seeking volunteers and donations. It is following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help stop the spread of germs.

EDUCATION

Berkeley Public Schools Fund

The Berkeley Public Schools Fund is supporting the emergency needs of Berkeley students and their families during the school closures/COVID-19 crisis.

The Fund is looking for donations as well as volunteers.

Berkeley Community Scholars

Berkeley Community Scholars are scrambling to find places to live after being displaced from dorms and grappling with their own and their parents’ loss of work. They face the real prospect of being unable to complete their classes, much less afford to return to school. They also need temporary housing, funds for groceries, day to day hygiene needs, and, increasingly, mental health services.

BCS is raising $50,000 for its Emergency Fund. The needs of BCS scholars will grow immensely in the coming weeks and months as they grapple with the "new normal."

West Contra Costa Public Education Fund

During school closures in the West Contra Costa Unified School District due to the COVID-19 crisis, the West Contra Costa Public Education Fund will be directing community donations to support families in need identified by the WCCUSD Office of Family & Community Engagement. Support could include groceries, internet services, and other emergency needs that help stabilize families during this crisis. The Fund is seeking donations.


Oakland Public Education Fund

In partnership with the Oakland Unified School District, the Oakland Public Education Fund has launched the “COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund for Oakland Kids & Schools”. It is seeking donations from community members to support its rapid response program to feed students and adults in OUSD, ensure safe and clean facilities, ensure continuity of learning, and support those who are most vulnerable.
