Daniel Shaughnessy, Ph.D., joined the Division of Extramural Research and Training in 2006. As a postdoctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Molecular Carcinogenesis at NIEHS, he conducted research on the risks and protective effects of dietary factors on DNA damage in humans. He received a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002 and an MSPH degree from UNC in 2000, studying the molecular mechanisms of dietary antimutagens.
Shaughnessy manages a portfolio of grants related to DNA repair and mutagenesis. He also manages grants on the development and validation of biomarkers of response to environmental stress, with a current focus on early biomarkers of mitochondrial dysfunction and altered signaling in response to environmental stress. He is the program contact for the small business programs (SBIR/STTR) at NIEHS.
Areas of Specialty:
- Genome Integrity & Environmental Stress
