The EHE Phase I Jurisdictions
In the 2019 State of the Union address, President Donald Trump announced his Administration’s goal to end the HIV epidemic in America within the next decade. Recognizing this once-in-a-generation opportunity, the federal government proposed the Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America (EHE) initiative, which provides a targeted infusion of new resources and support to local communities in working together and with the federal government to end the HIV epidemic in America. To achieve maximum impact, the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative focuses its Phase I efforts in 48 counties, Washington, DC, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, where more than 50 percent of new HIV diagnoses occurred in 2016 and 2017, and an additional seven states with a substantial number of HIV diagnoses in rural areas, bringing the total number of Phase I jurisdictions to 57. In order to end this epidemic at the national level, we must start with ending it at the local level.
This map displays the 57 jurisdictions identified by the EHE initiative, including 48 counties, Washington, DC, San Juan, Puerto Rico, seven states with substantial burden of HIV in rural areas, and states/territories that contain one or more of the priority counties/areas of the EHE Initiative.
The Six EHE Indicators
AHEAD is a data visualization tool designed to display data on the six indicators for each of the Phase I jurisdictions. Future iterations of AHEAD will be interactive and allow for more comprehensive analysis of the data at the national and jurisdictional levels.
Overarching Goal
The EHE initiative aims to reduce new HIV infections in the United States by 75% in five years and by 90% in 10 years.
Midterm Goal
This indicator will be used to show the historical movement towards achieving the overall goals of the EHE initiative.
Leading Indicators
The leading national indicators demonstrate movement towards meeting the overarching goals of the EHE initiative and are updated frequently.
