This report uses American Housing Survey data to consider the implications of the aging of the population for the size and characteristics of the housing stock. The report first projects the population of elderly households through 2030. It then examines the distribution of housing characteristics by age cohort to determine the different types of housing that will be in demand as the population ages. The appendixes contain a literature review and a set of tables containing detailed cross-tabulations.
