VA researcher Dr. M. Patrick Feeney receives career award in audiology
NCRAR Director Dr. Feeney received the 2019 Jerger Career Award for Research in Audiology in recognition of his work to improve the lives of Veterans and others affected by hearing loss. This is awarded to an individual for research contributions in the field of audiology/hearing science, whose work has had major impacts on the field and/or practice of audiology. 2019 Conference
The NCRAR hosts an international conference every two years in Portland, Oregon, bringing together clinical researchers and practicing audiologists in an interactive format with the goal of translating research findings into practice.
The next conference will be held in 2021. Check back regularly for more information as it becomes available.

NCRAR's Dr. Henry (co-principal investigator, along with Dr. Mary Meikle to develop the Tinnitus Functional Index) recently received the "Top Copyright License" award. The award was received with the following introduction: "In addition to patents and biological materials, copyrighted materials (such as software, cookbooks, other written materials, etc.) have value and can be licensed out. This year, the top Copyright License at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) comprises multiple licenses of the Tinnitus Functional Index. In just this past year, OHSU executed 20 licenses for foreign translations and well over 50 licenses for the English version of the Tinnitus Functional Index." Congratulations to those who contributed to this effort and were recognized for OHSU's Top Copyright License: Pictured from left to right are Dr. James Henry, Dr. Danny Jacobs (OHSU president), Ms. Susan Griest and Drs. Robert Folmer and Fred Nuttall. Also recognized but not pictured were the numerous other authors on the original publication.

Monthly Seminars
NCRAR hosts monthly seminars featuring renowned scientists from around the world. All seminars take place 12-1 pm Pacific Time in VA Portland Health Care System, Building 101, Room 109. Most are also broadcast live via v-tel to other VA facilities and are available on DVD by request from NCRAR@va.gov.
Did you know... there is no need for a referral for hearing loss services?
According to Dr. Rachel McArdle, “Veterans who are enrolled and eligible for VA care can call their VA audiology clinic and ask to be scheduled to have their hearing tested. Additionally, they can always stop at the audiology clinic if they are already at the hospital or clinic for another appointment and ask to be scheduled.” Dr. McArdle is the National Director of Audiology and Speech Pathology.
