DNA Databases

  • Alu Pairs Databases
    This map file is a subfile of repbase(Genetic Information Research Institute(GIRI)), derived by comparing genomic sequences in the GenBank database(release 112.0, National center for Biotechnology Information, National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD) with the Alu consensus sequence, was made in April 1999 and is maintained at the GIRI, Sunnyvale, CA).
  • Environmental Genome Project 
    The NIEHS Environmental Genome Project is a multi-disciplinary, collaborative effort focused on examining the relationships between environmental exposures, inter-individual sequence variation in human genes and disease risk in U.S. populations.
  • Environmental Polymorphisms Registry (EPR) 
    The Environmental Polymorphisms Registry (EPR) is a long-term research project to collect and store DNA from up to 20,000 North Carolinians in a biobank.
  • Mouse Genome Resequencing Project 
    This is the link to download the imputed genotypes at all 8 million (8,285,037) SNPs discovered by NIEHS/Perlegen resequencing project.
  • Human DNA Polymerase gamma Mutation
    Human DNA polymerase is composed of two subunits, a 140 kDa catalytic subunit encoded by the POLG on chromosome 15q25, and a 55kDa accessory subunit encoded by the POLG2 gene on chromosome 17q23-24.

Toxicology Databases

  • Chemical Effects in Biological Systems (CEBS)
    The CEBS database houses data of interest to environmental health scientists. CEBS is a public resource, and has received depositions of data from academic, industrial and governmental laboratories.
  • Comparative Toxicogenomics Database
    TD is a robust, publicly available database that aims to advance understanding about how environmental exposures affect human health. It provides manually curated information about chemical–gene/protein interactions, chemical–disease and gene–disease relationships. These data are integrated with functional and pathway data to aid in development of hypotheses about the mechanisms underlying environmentally influenced diseases.
  • Nanomaterial Registry 
    The Nanomaterial Registry is an authoritative, fully curated resource that archives research data on nanomaterials and their biological and environmental implications.

    The Climate Change and Human Health Literature Portal is a knowledge management tool for locating the most relevant scientific literature on the health implications of climate change.

    The NIH Collaborative Research Exchange (CREx) is a collaborative research exchange for the NIH Intramural Research Program.
  • Impacts of Climate Change on Human Health in the United States: A Scientific Assessment 
    Climate change is affecting the health of Americans. As the climate continues to change, the risks to human health will grow, exacerbating existing health threats and creating new public health challenges. This assessment significantly advances what we know about the impacts of climate change on public health, and the confidence with which we know it. While all Americans will be affected by climate change, the report recognizes populations of concern, such as children, the elderly, outdoor workers, and those living in disadvantaged communities, who are disproportionately vulnerable.
  • Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) 
    EHP is a monthly peer-reviewed journal of research and news published with support from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

    The Environmental Health Science Education website provides educators, students and scientists with easy access to reliable tools, resources and classroom materials.
  • Core Facilities
    NIEHS facilities provide state-of-the-art equipment and expertise, which support in-house (intramural) research activities at the institute. These shared and core services are available to NIH employees only.
  • Electron Paramagnetic Resonance/Electron Spin Resonance (EPR/ESR)
    Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), also known as electron spin resonance (ESR), is a sophisticated spectroscopic technique that detects free radicals in chemical and biological systems.
  • International Myositis Assessment & Clinical Studies Group (IMACS)
    The International Myositis Assessment and Clinical Studies Group (IMACS) is a coalition of health care providers and researchers with experience and interest in the myositis syndromes.
  • Molecular Microscopy Consortium
    The Molecular Microscopy Consortium allows scientists from NIEHS, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Duke University to use single particle cryo-electron microscopy and other tools in molecular microscopy to solve macromolecular structures at the atomic level.

    The Epidemiology Branch addresses the mission of the NIEHS by carrying out basic and applied research on the effects of the environment on human health.
  • Free Radical Metabolism
    The Free Radical Metabolism Group studies free radicals, which are atoms or molecules with unpaired electrons in an outer electron shell.
  • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance
    The Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Group performs fundamental research on biological systems aimed at providing insight into the molecular mechanisms that underlie problems of environmental concern.
  • Public Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Software Tools
    NIEHS has produced software for Electron Paramagnetic Resonance analysis since 1983.

Technology Transfer

NIEHS provides visual guide to help researchers by providing best practices for creating highly repeatable results.

  • Technology Transfer
    The primary mission of this office is to enable NIEHS intramural researchers to more effectively interact with their counterparts — in academia, nonprofit organizations, and the private sector, such as biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies — to establish collaborative relationships that will benefit human health.
