Real Property Policy Division Overview

The Real Property Policy Division develops, promotes, and assesses compliance with management policies and regulations for the effective and efficient stewardship of Federal real property assets. We do this by:

  • Providing government-wide policy oversight and guidance for the acquisition, construction, utilization, management, and disposal of Federal real property.
  • Providing leadership in the development and maintenance of a centralized government-wide real property inventory system.
  • Developing regulations, standards, and criteria for issuance by the Administrator for the acquisition, construction, utilization, management, and disposal of Federal real property.

The Real Property Policy Division focuses on two areas: real property asset management and regulations management.

Real Property Asset Management
Promotes and supports government-wide programs that improve the efficiency of real estate management by Federal agencies.

The Division helps Federal agencies comply with Executive Orders, Administrative initiatives, and data collection requirements. We also support the Federal Real Property Council, track progress on real property performance, and provide tools to share information and assist agencies in analyzing their real property portfolios.

Regulations Management
Oversees the real property policies within the Federal Management Regulation 41 CFR 102-71 through 41 CFR 102-86 and issues guidance through notices, bulletins, and instructional letters.

We analyze the impact of laws, Executive Orders, and international agreements; and through interagency working groups addressing real property issues affecting Federal agencies.
