ASPR’s Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) partnered with private industry to develop medicines, vaccines, and diagnostics, nine of which FDA approved in the past year, bringing the total number of FDA approvals for BARDA-sponsored medical countermeasures to 42. These include the world’s first approved treatment for smallpox, a new radiation injury treatment, and two new antibiotics.
DRIVe: Transforming Health Security
BARDA launched a transformational program called DRIVe to draw on early innovation from across the country to combat systemic health security challenges, beginning with Solving Sepsis to Early Notification to Act Control and Treat (ENACT) infections before people even know they are ill. The program includes eight regional accelerators to move innovative ideas from discovery into development.
