  • Through the organization of UNICEF, our school was accepted for a program called "The UNICEF Kid Power Band." Farmers Branch Elementary received 40 activity bands. The UNICEF Kid Power Band empowers kids to get active, go on fun missions with famous champions and send lifesaving therapeutic food packets to kids in need. This program is beneficial in 3 ways: Count Steps - Have fun setting daily activity goals with friends and family Tell Time - It's a watch, too, so kids won't ever lose track of time when they're having fun Earn Rewards - Kids take steps to help malnourished kids around the world The more a student moves (wearing the band), the more food packets will be donated. So far, our students have moved enough to send over 400 food packets! What an amazing program that encourages movement while helping others! Thanks UNICEF and way to go Mustangs!

  • The Perry Robotics Club traveled to Norman, Oklahoma this past weekend (March 25th) to compete in the multi-state Oklahoma Botball regional competition. Botball is an extremely challenging autonomous robotics competition for middle school and high school students. There are no division lines and middle school students must compete directly against high school students. The students have nearly 2 1/2 months to design, build, program, document and test up to two robots to compete in a very challenging competition. The robots the students build are 100% autonomous (no remote control) and are programmed by the students in a real-world programming language called "C". The competition is divided into three parts: seeding rounds, double elimination and a documentation and oral presentation. These scores are combined to get a team's overall score. DeWitt Perry sent 4 teams including a team composed exclusively of Perry alumni from Turner and Creekview called "Perry 2.0". When the dust settled, of the top 5 teams (out of 48), 3 were from CFBISD

  • Central Elementary hosted its Annual Literacy Night. Upon entering, students chose one book and followed their parents to various locations to learn comprehension strategies to use with their new books. Parents and students then “traveled” through Literacy Land to hear stories from Dr. Seussville, Fairy Tale Land, Land of Scary Stories and North of Nonfiction, where they learned about landforms and regional habitats. Travelers carried a Literacy Land passport, which was stamped upon leaving each land. When their passports were complete, they chose another book; thus, taking two brand new books home to add to their home libraries.

This large facility houses 5000 employees and mans a 24 hour call center for banking customers from all over the world. Also at this facility, there are Scrum teams who work together to develop new mobile technology for Citi and are constantly developing new ways to keep their banking customers satisfied. The students visited the call center, the fitness center, and learned about the importance of having a positive digital footprint, now and in the future. They learned about Citi's commitment to community volunteering and about various careers that can be pursued as an employee of this large corporation. Chris represented the school and program well at the state meet. He was the first state qualifier for the Trojans since 2015. • The Trojan wrestlers had a pretty good start to the regional tournament. During day one on Friday, all three boys that entered the tournament won at least one match. Both Tyrese Lewis and Chris Conway won two matches and returned for day 2. On the second day of competition, Lewis' tournament ended with a 6th place finish. He ended his season as a regional placer with a 25-9 overall record. Conway's path was an odyssey worthy of a Trojan hero. He won his first match of the date then was narrowly defeated in his second. That loss sent him to the 5th place match, which he won. That victory allowed him to challenge for the fourth place wrestler for a berth to the state wrestling finals. In his final battle of the weekend, Chris Conway avenged two previous losses against a competitor from Creekview and will be the Trojans' lone qualifier for state in his first competitive season.

Cassidy was born without a heartbeat, but was able to be brought back to life with CPR from vets at Texas A&M. The breeder wanted to put Cassidy down because he was born without a front right paw. Without hesitation, Bernie adopted Cassidy and trained him to be a therapy dog. Good Elementary was lucky enough to get to meet Bernie & Cassidy. Cassidy has now learned to walk with a prosthetic leg. Bernie uses Cassidy as a platform to reach out to students with disabilities, special needs, or those that feel they don't quite fit in. Bernie says that Cassidy will go to schools and help students who have trouble reading and will sit and listen to them read.
