 ExPORTER Overview

ExPORTER is a key component of the NIH “open government” initiatives to provide more transparency into NIH activities, and improve the quality and usability of data collected. ExPORTER provides bulk administrative data found in RePORTER to the public for detailed analyses or to load into their own data systems. Generally, files for downloading are provided in both CSV and XML formats. The ABOUT ExPORTER page includes the data dictionary for each file, the data refresh details and other pertinent information. CRISP was the predecessor system to RePORTER, and legacy files drawn from this system are provided from FY 1970 to FY 2009.

ExPORTER Overview The data files underlying RePORTER include information on projects funded by NIH and other agencies of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (ACF, AHRQ, CDC, HRSA, FDA), and the VA. These data are drawn from multiple sources and are provided to the public in the spirit of transparency even though the data, and any analyses derived from them, cannot be considered an official report of the NIH or any of the other federal agencies whose records can be found in RePORTER.

ExPORTER Overview Along with detailed information on each Project and separate files containing the Abstract text, files are available with information on Publications, Patents, and Clinical Studies that have acknowledged support from these projects. Due to size and complexity a Link Table is provided to link projects and publications datasets using the PMIDs. Please visit ABOUT ExPORTER for the data dictionary and other information about each file.

ExPORTER Overview The information available in ExPORTER has evolved over time, and where possible, ancillary files have been added to provide a more robust data set for earlier fiscal year files; such as Funding & DUNS Numbers. RePORTER data are refreshed weekly, whereas ExPORTER files represent the data in RePORTER at the time the file was created; see Last Updated Date.

For more information visit ExPORTER FAQs, and direct any questions to RePORT@od.nih.gov.

We invite you to take advantage of these data. You can help us improve this public service by providing feedback, suggestions, and notification of any errors in the data. With your help, future ExPORTER service will continue to enhance and grow.
