National Digital Guidance Database (NDGD)

This image was produced by downloading one NDGD file through NOMADS and visualizing it with the Grid Analysis and Display System (GrADS).

The National Digital Guidance Database (NDGD) is a companion set of products to the National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD). NDGD products are guidance used by National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters while preparing official forecasts when using data in the NDFD. The Real-Time Mesoscale Analysis (RTMA) supports NDFD operations and provides analyses to NWS field forecasters. Many NDGD products are experimental, and all NDGD products are not official NWS forecasts. More information on NDGD products is available at the NDGD home page.

A plot of NDGD wind speed error around Hawaii valid on February 22, 2013. As of July 10, 2012, wind speed products around Hawaii have been experimental since November 9, 2010. This image was produced by visualizing one NDGD file with Unidata's Integrated Data Viewer (IDV).

Many NDGD products are available for download through the NCEI's model data services. For data not available online, access is through the NCEI HDSS Access Service (HAS) offline request system. HAS requests are limited to one day at a time due to the size of the data and required processing.
