Today in his daily press briefing, Governor JB Pritzker attacked me for holding his Administration accountable because they've failed to get the mess at the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) under control. Here's my response to the Governor: With all due respect, Governor Pritzker, the U.S. Government doesn't run the Illinois Department of Employment Security. You do. You administer and process the unemployment insurance benefits paid for by federal taxpayers. You knew full well that your executive orders would force Illinoisans out of a work, and you still allowed unemployment claims to pile up. And get your facts straight. I’ve supported expanded unemployment benefits at the federal level to help workers hurt by your policies. I also supported a $42 million appropriation for IDES to train and recruit new staff to process claims in a timely manner. Where has that money gone? You know what doesn’t help? Shutting down more and more small businesses by executive order and pushing tax hikes during a pandemic while agencies under your control bungle the pandemic response. You literally blame everyone but yourself for issues that are under your control – voter rejection of your tax hike, state finances, FOID backlog, unemployment claim backlog, the list goes on. Be a leader and take responsibility.

As a Member of Congress, I have the privilege of nominating accomplished young men and women to our nation’s service academies. This year we had applicants to the U.S. Air Force Academy, United States Naval Academy, and West Point - The U.S. Military Academy. I commend their desire to serve their country and wish them the best of luck as they continue the admissions process.

I made my first phone call to the Illinois Department of Employment Security - IDES yesterday morning and was immediately directed to call another number for fraud claims. Maybe in the future, IDES can just list that phone number on the form to save claimants a little time. I scheduled a call back, signed up for texts, and was texted that I'd be contacted at a later time.
