Slash Wall: Cutting edge forestry practice comes to Rhode Island

In Foster, Rhode Island, a patch of forest is dedicated to conservation education. The Rhode Island Forest Conservators Organization (RIFCO), maintains a demonstration woodlot where landowners can see forest management practices at work. RIFCO’s most recent project is cutting edge.

When Patrick and Diane Luther purchased 38 acres of Glocester, RI woodland, they intended to develop house lots for their family. Jobs and school took their kids down other roads, so when NRCS contacted them about protecting the land with a conservation easement, they were very interested.

USDA announces funding for floodplain easements in Johnston

NRCS, the town of Johnston and RIACD have signed an agreement for Emergency Watershed Protection Program funding to buy floodplain easements on properties affected by flooding on Belfield Drive.
