The Cryo-EM (cryogenic electron microscopy) facility at SLAC, built and operated in partnership with Stanford University, is equipped with multiple state-of-the-art instruments for cryo-EM, a groundbreaking technology whose rapid development over the past few years has given scientists unprecedented views of the inner workings of the cell. Our facility is funded by different sources which have different restrictions to users and associated costs.
Our Programs
Stanford-SLAC Cryo-EM Center (S2C2)
The Stanford-SLAC Cryo-EM Center (S2C2) provides access to state-of-the-art cryo-EM instruments for data collection towards atomic resolution structure determination of biochemically purified single particles and enables scientists across the nation to become independent cryo-EM investigators. The S2C2 is supported by the National Institutes of Health Common Fund Transformative High Resolution Cryo-Electron Microscopy program.
Stanford-SLAC Cryo-EM Facilities
The first facility to open as part of the Stanford-SLAC Cryo-EM Initiative. It allows researchers at SLAC and Stanford to prepare cryo-samples, collect data at high speed and assess the quality of that data on the fly. Funding is provided by Stanford University, SLAC and the National Institutes of Health S10 Instrumentation Programs.
National Center for Macromolecular Imaging (NCMI)
A national center for 3-D electron microscopy from macromolecules to whole cells focused on cryo-EM technology research development and technology dissemination. Collaborators from academia and industries are welcome to drive our research and training missions. NCMI is supported by National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Biomedical Technology Research Resource.
Regional Cryo-EM Consortium
Funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to establish and maintain a high resolution cryo-EM data collection facility. The facility is available only to consortium members, who are structural biologists specializing in cryo-EM techniques and who do not have high resolution data collection facilities at their home institutions.
