As director of media relations, Jennifer Huergo has led NIST’s efforts to develop and maintain good relationships with the media covering NIST since 2012. Her priority is ensuring the timely release of accurate and interesting information about NIST’s many research efforts. Huergo is also dedicated to helping the agency’s research and administrative staff better explain the value of NIST’s work and its impact on industry, the economy and quality of life in the U.S.
In her 20+ years as a science writer, she has written about a wide range of topics including space physics, ocean sciences, ballistic missile technologies, fire research and more.
Huergo joined NIST in 2010 as director of its tour program. Prior to coming to NIST, she served as a science writer and public affairs specialist at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and the Office of Naval Research. Before that, she was a technology writer at the National Technology Transfer Center, editorial assistant for the American Institute of Physics publication Computers in Physics, and an educator at the Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium, on Long Island, New York.
She is a member of the National Association of Science Writers and a member and past president of the D.C. Science Writers Association.
