Flood Map Products

FEMA provides flood hazard and risk data products to help guide mitigation actions.

Types of Products

Regulatory products are intended to be used as the basis for official actions required by the National Flood Insurance Program.

Non-regulatory products go beyond the basic flood hazard information found in the official regulatory products. These products provide a more user friendly analysis of flood risks within a Risk MAP Flood Risk Project.

Regulatory Products

Flood Insurance Rate Maps

Flood Insurance Rate Maps are the official community maps that shows special flood hazard areas and the risk premium zones.

Flood Insurance Study Report

When a flood study is completed for NFIP, the information and maps are assembled into an Flood Insurance Study (FIS). The FIS report contains detailed flood elevation data in flood profiles and data tables.

FIRM Database

A FIRM Database is a Geographic Information Systems (GIS)  version of the FIRM and most of the quantitative data in the Flood insurance Study.

Non-Regulatory Products

Flood Risk Map

Flood Risk Maps summarize the notable flood risks within the project area and present this data within one large map.

Flood Risk Report

Flood Risk Reports summarize flood hazard and risk exposure to a community. In conjunction with the FIS report, it explains in detail the methodology and results of a Flood Insurance Rate Map.

Flood Risk Database

A Flood Risk Database (FRD) parallels the FIRM database. The Flood Risk Database provides a wealth of data that may be used to analyze, communicate and visualize flood risk. Communities are encouraged to use this database to support mitigation efforts and raise awareness.

National Risk Index

The National Risk Index (NRI) is a new online resource from FEMA to help communities understand their risk to natural hazards. As a tool, the NRI analyzes risk factors for 18 natural hazards by defining risk as the product of expected annual loss (EAL), social vulnerability and community resilience. It provides a holistic view of community risk to enhance hazard mitigation and emergency planning.

Access the National Risk Index data and resources.

Preliminary Flood Hazard Data

Preliminary flood hazard data provide the public an early look at their home or community‘s projected risk to flood hazards. Preliminary data may include: new or revised Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM), Flood Insurance Study (FIS) reports, and FIRM Databases.

View your community's preliminary flood hazard data.

National Flood Hazard Layer

National Flood Hazard Layer is a geospatial database made from effective flood maps and Letters of Map Change (LOMC) delivered to communities.

Access the National Flood Hazard Layer ArcGIS viewer and other resources.

Hazus

Hazus is a nationally applicable methodology that models potential losses from earthquakes, floods and hurricanes. Hazus uses GIS technology to estimate physical, economic and social impacts of disasters.
