Program Overview

Harnessing Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa (DS-I Africa), an NIH Common Fund program, aims to advance data science, catalyze innovation and spur health discoveries across Africa. The new five-year initiative will leverage existing data and technologies to develop solutions for the continent’s most pressing clinical and public health problems.

NIH hosted the DS-I Africa Virtual Symposium Platform to launch the DS-I Africa program and facilitate networking, with networking tools and online events July through November 2020.

DS-I Africa is a program of the NIH Common Fund, which is managed by the Office of Strategic Coordination/Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Coordination/Office of the NIH Director.

A working group of NIH components is guiding the program, led by Fogarty, the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
