UCEDDs

 

Since 1963, University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service (UCEDD) have been working to accomplish a shared vision that foresees a nation in which all Americans, including Americans with disabilities, participate fully in their communities. Independence, productivity, and community inclusion are key components of this vision. Currently, sixty-seven UCEDDs in every state and territory are located in a university setting.

AIDD-AUCD Disability Leadership Fellowship

The Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ADD) University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) Fellowship program seeks to recruit outstanding individuals in the UCEDD community for an intensive year-long experience in Washington, D.C. at the Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD), within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Application deadline is December 15.

 
 

Congratulations to Gloria Krahn on Receiving the APHA Disability Section Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Krahn has made a major contribution to the improvement of health and quality of life for people with disabilities through research, teaching, and advocacy. With over 25 years of experience as an academic clinician, researcher, teacher and administrator, Dr. Krahn is widely regarded as a national and international expert in the field of disability and public health.

MCH Careers/Research Initiatives for Student Enhancement-Undergraduate Program (MCHC/RISE-UP) at Kennedy Krieger Institute: Cohort 2012, a Sucessful First Year

This consortium provided public health leadership experiences in community engagement and advocacy, clinical and research learning tracks focusing on health disparities and maternal and child health for up to 50 undergraduate students from diverse populations.

Maine UCEDD and Maine EPSCoR Collaborate on Model to Support the Transition of High School Students with Disabilities into STEM-related Postsecondary Education

The University of Maine Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies, and Maine EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research), are collaborating on a project, Increasing Access and Success in the STEM Disciplines, to develop and evaluate a model for supporting the transition of Maine high school students with disabilities into STEM-related postsecondary educational opportunities within the University of Maine System.

The Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AIDD) is offering a small number of grants to self-advocacy organizations. The goal is to help self-advocacy organizations grow and become stronger.

 
 

Project Search Arizona prepares disabled young adults to enter workforce (Sonoran UCEDD)

Project Search Arizona is part of a national program that prepares high school students and young adults with developmental disabilities to be competitive in the workforce by providing them with hands-on job experience.

 
 

Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire Appoints Associate Director

Sue has been with the IOD since 2002. A key aspect of her work involves the development of person-centered home and community-based services for older adults and adults with disabilities to prevent unnecessary institutionalization and to support all citizens to live within their home communities.

 
 

'Understanding a Down Syndrome Diagnosis' Booklet Available Through Kennedy Foundation and Kentucky's Human Development Institute

Copyright to the nationally lauded booklet has been donated to the The Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation. The booklet continues to be available in print and as a free digital download through the Lettercase program at the University of Kentucky's Human Development Institute. Over 25,000 copies of Understanding a Down Syndrome Diagnosis have been distributed nationwide since 2008.

National Disability Rights Network (NDRN)

The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) is the nonprofit membership organization for the federally mandated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) Systems and Client Assistance Programs (CAP) for individuals with disabilities. Collectively, the P&A/CAP network is the largest provider of legally based advocacy services to people with disabilities in the United States.
