USDA Revises Requirements for Importing Fresh Blueberries from Chile into the United States

Washington, D.C., October 10, 2020 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is revising the requirements for importing fresh blueberry fruit from Chile into the United States. Effective immediately, blueberries from the Biobio and Nuble regions of Chile may be produced under a systems approach as an alternative to the methyl bromide fumigation requirement. The systems approach combines safeguarding measures across the production continuum by growers, packers, and shippers to minimize the risk of introducing plant pests into the United States.
