    Reclamation completes environmental review of salinity control alternatives in Colorado's Paradox Valley

    GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Reclamation announced today the release of the final environmental impact statement for the Paradox Valley Unit. The benefits and impacts of a variety of alternatives for salinity control were analyzed and the "no-action alternative" was selected as the best means to minimize and avoid environmental harm, while maintaining compliance with the Salinity Control Act. "After considering public comments, Reclamation determined the no-action alternative achieves the best balance among the various goals and objectives outlined in the environmental impact statement," said Reclamation's Western Colorado Area Office Manager Ed Warner. "The no-action alternative is in the best interest of public health and safety." Alternatives analyzed in the final EIS include a new injection well, evaporation ponds, zero liquid discharge technology and no action. Read More

    Hyrum Mendon CanalTrump Administration Transfers Federal Water Facility to Local Ownership

    SALT LAKE CITY – The Bureau of Reclamation notified Congress today of its intent to transfer ownership of the Provo River Project South Branch Canal to the Utah Lake Distributing Company (ULDC). This action continues the Trump Administration's commitment to transferring appropriate water-related facilities to local ownership under the John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act (P.L. 116-9), which was signed by President Trump in March of 2019. The Act expedites the title transfer process for eligible projects, such as dams, canals and other water-related facilities. The proposed transfer is the seventh Reclamation water project transfer implemented under the Act. Read More

    Hyrum Mendon CanalTrump Administration takes another step to transfer federal water facilities to local ownership in Utah

    SALT LAKE CITY – The Bureau of Reclamation today notified Congress of its intent to transfer ownership of the Hyrum-Mendon Canal and Wellsville Canal, which are part of the Hyrum Project in Cache County, Utah, to the Wellsville-Mendon Conservation District. Lands associated with these two canals will also be transferred. This action follows the recent completion of two similar transfers in Utah. Read More

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In a year with low spring runoff and lacking normal summer monsoon rains, Reclamation, the state of New Mexico, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District and the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority coordinated closer than ever and took actions together to stretch the limited supply to keep the Rio Grande flowing through Albuquerque while supporting as many uses as possible, including irrigation.     Interior and states sign historic drought agreements to protect Colorado River

    BOULDER CITY, NEV. – The Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation and representatives from all seven Colorado River Basin states gathered today and signed completed drought contingency plans for the Upper and Lower Colorado River basins. These completed plans are designed to reduce risks from ongoing drought and protect the single most important water resource in the western United States. Read More
