The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) provides national and global leadership for innovative research that improves public health by preventing disease and disability associated with environmental influences. The Deputy Director at NIEHS works closely with the Director to provide a national focus for the Federal effort to advance knowledge and understanding of mechanisms aimed at discovering how the environment affects people in order to promote healthier lives.
We are looking for applicants with a commitment to scientific excellence and the energy, enthusiasm, and innovative thinking necessary to lead within a dynamic and diverse organization. Applicants must possess an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and have senior-level research experience and knowledge of research programs in one or more scientific areas related to environmental health science research, including the importance of high standards for rigor and reproducibility. In addition, the incumbent must have experience and demonstrated ability in the administration and management of a major national research program as well as broad familiarity and working knowledge of environmental health science research. The successful candidate for this position will be appointed at a salary commensurate with experience and accomplishments, and full Federal benefits, including leave, health and life insurance, retirement and savings plan (401K equivalent) will be provided.
