A Comprehensive Approach to Preventing Suicide: The Role of Law and Policy and the Social Determinants of Health
This webinar highlighted how an evidence-based approach can be taken to reduce suicides in communities, which includes working with partners and various sectors to address the broader social determinants of health while also leveraging legal and policy tools. Leading public health, suicide prevention, and policy experts, government representatives, and community partners talked about how they’ve addressed the role of social determinants in preventing suicide.

Who’s Leading the Leading Health Indicators? Webinar: Clinical Preventive Services
In this webinar, presenters talked about progress made on achieving the Healthy People 2020 Clinical Preventive Services Leading Health Indicators. The webinar focused on colorectal cancer screening and highlighted the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to implement evidence-based interventions — including policy, systems, and environmental approaches — to increase colorectal cancer screenings and reduce the burden of cancer throughout the state.

2015 Healthy Aging Summit
On July 27 – 28, 2015, the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) co-hosted the 2015 Healthy Aging Summit in Washington, D.C. with the American College of Preventive Medicine. The Summit was the first national conference focused exclusively on public health policy and practice around healthy aging in the United States and led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
On July 29, 2015, the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) and the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities (NASUAD), with support from ODPHP, hosted a State Healthy Aging Workshop. During the one-day workshop, teams from 45 states and the District of Columbia identified priorities for promoting healthy aging in states.
