OUR MISSION & GOALS
A special emphasis on plutonium
Our goals and mission
The Seaborg Institute serves as a center for the education and training of students, visiting scientists, and faculty at all educational levels.
Its goal is to maintain and enhance US capabilities in actinide science and technology—and to help attract, develop, and retain the workforce of actinide scientists needed to meet the needs of the nation.
Our institute supports collaborative research and education for transactinium science by:
- actively facilitating the nucleation of ideas and formation of research teams for the Laboratory and the nation
- targeting specific funding sources
- maintaining support for Seaborg Postdoctoral Fellows and student researchers
- launching new nuclear science initiatives
