Program Description

NIEHS SBIR/STTR grants and contracts help small businesses develop innovative applications to translate and communicate environmental health research to improve public health. The SBIR/STTR program uses a combination of research, technology transfer, and communication strategies to aid the mission of NIEHS. Research and training areas include:

  • Exposure assessment tools
  • Bio-monitoring technologies
  • Assays and model systems for screening compounds for toxicity
  • Educational materials to support understanding of environmental health science
  • Superfund Research Program - Detection and remediation technologies for contaminated sites
  • NIEHS Worker Training Program - Advanced Training Technology (ATT) products for the health and safety training of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) workers, emergency responders, and skilled support personnel

Who We Fund - is a database of Environmental Health Science Research Funded by NIEHS. Search GRANT NUMBER "R43" or "R44" for SBIR grants,and "R41" or "R42" for STTR grants.

The NIEHS SBIR/STTR program has an annual commitment of over $16 million per year. Grant applications are accepted in response to the NIH Omnibus solicitation using the SF 424 application guide and SF 424 Form Set process (SBIR PA-16-302 and STTR PA-16-303), which are released in early spring of each year and has 3 receipt dates.
