  1. USDA Disaster Assistance Application Deadline is Nov. 20 for Certain 2017, 2018 and 2019 Crop Loss

    COLUMBIA, S.C., Nov. 12, 2020 – USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds producers in South Carolina that that Friday, Nov. 20 is the last day to submit applications for disaster assistance for eligible losses caused by Tropical Storm Cindy in 2017 as well as peach and blueberry losses due to extreme cold or hurricanes in 2017 and 2018.

  2. USDA Designates Five South Carolina Counties as Primary Natural Disaster Areas

    WASHINGTON, Nov. 3, 2020 — Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue designated five South Carolina counties as primary natural disaster areas. Producers in Clarendon, Marion, Spartanburg, Sumter and Williamsburg counties who suffered losses caused by excessive moisture and Tropical Storm Bertha that occurred May 18 through June 1, 2020, may be eligible for U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans.

  3. Dairy Margin Coverage Program Enrollment for 2021 Opens Oct. 13

    COLUMBIA, S.C., Oct. 8, 2020 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will begin accepting applications for the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 for 2021 enrollment.

    Signup runs through Dec. 11, 2020. DMC is a voluntary risk management program that offers protection to dairy producers when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed price (the margin) falls below a certain dollar amount selected by the producer. DMC payments triggered for seven months in 2019 and three months so far in 2020.  More than 23,000 operations enrolled in DMC in 2019, and more than 13,000 in 2020.

  4. USDA Issues $1.68 Billion in Payments to Producers Enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program

    WASHINGTON, Oct. 15, 2020 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is issuing $1.68 billion in payments to agricultural producers and landowners for the 21.9 million acres enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), which provides annual rental payment for land devoted to conservation purposes.

    “CRP is one of the many ‘tools’ that USDA offers to producers and private landowners to help best manage sensitive lands,” said Richard Fordyce, Administrator of USDA’s Farm Service Agency. “Lands enrolled in this program conserve soil, improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife, sequester carbon, and benefit agricultural operations.”

  5. USDA to Provide Additional Direct Assistance to Farmers and Ranchers Impacted by the Coronavirus

    WASHINGTON, Sept. 18, 2020 – President Donald J. Trump and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today announced up to an additional $14 billion for agricultural producers who continue to face market disruptions and associated costs because of COVID-19. Signup for the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP 2) will begin September 21 and run through December 11, 2020.
