This publication describes the methodology used in the 2012/17 Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study Postsecondary Education Transcript Study. BPS:12 PETS is the third data release for a study of a nationally representative sample of first-time beginning postsecondary students who were surveyed 3 times over 6 academic years, in 2011-12, 2014, and 2017. Postsecondary academic transcripts were requested from all institutions attended by sample members. These transcript data include detailed information, by institution attended and by time periods, on enrollment, degree programs, fields of study, course taking, credit accumulation, and academic performance.

NCES 2020308 Revenues and Expenditures for Public Elementary and Secondary School Districts: FY 18

This report presents data on public elementary and secondary education revenues and expenditures at the local education agency (LEA) or school district level for fiscal year (FY) 2017. Specifically, this report includes finance data on the following topics:

  • Current expenditure totals and current expenditure per pupil amounts by state as well as for the 100 largest LEAs;
  • Federal, state, and local revenues for the 100 largest LEAs;
  • Median revenues per pupil and median current expenditures per pupil by geographic region and locale;
  • Current expenditure totals and current expenditure per pupil amounts by activity (e.g., instruction, support services) and specific expenditure (e.g., salaries and wages, employee benefits), by state and for the two largest LEAs in each state;
  • Federal revenues received by LEAs, by program and state;
  • Local revenues by source, by state; and
  • Capital outlay expenditures by state.

NCES 2020306 Revenues and Expenditures for Public Elementary and Secondary Education: FY 18
The finance tables and figures introduce new data for national and state-level public elementary and secondary revenues and expenditures for fiscal year (FY) 2018. Specifically, the tables include the following school finance data
  • revenue and expenditure totals;
  • revenues by source;
  • expenditures by function and object;
  • current expenditures; and
  • current expenditures per pupil.

NCES 2020122 2019-20 Common Core of Data (CCD) Preliminary Directory Files
On July 7th, 2020, the National Center for Education Statistics released the 2019-20 Common Core of Data (CCD) Preliminary Directory Files. These files are the product of the CCD data collection for the 2019-20 school year. Data are reported at district and school levels as of October 1, 2019. The preliminary directory files include basic identifying information for each public school and local education agency (LEA), including the NCES identification numbers, location and mailing address and some limited attributes about the school or LEA, such as type, operational status, the lowest and highest grade offered. The preliminary directories do not include aggregated demographic information such as student enrollment or teacher and staff counts. For the preliminary directory, NCES has only conducted a limited review of the files. It is meant to provide data users with a more timely release of basic information for school and LEA. The full CCD universe for SY 2019-20 (which will include demographic information) will be published in Spring 2021.

NCES 2020034 Health and STEM Career Expectations and Science Literacy Achievement of U.S. 15-Year-Old Students
This report uses U.S. data from the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), a nationally representative study of 15-year-old students. This brief details the percentage, and reports the average score, of students who foresee either a career in health fields or in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. The report analyzes career expectations and science achievement by gender, race/ethnicity, immigration status, and a measure of socioeconomic status.

NCES 2020024 Projections of Education Statistics to 2028
Projections of Education Statistics to 2028 is the 47th in a series of publications initiated in 1964. This publication provides national-level data on enrollment, teachers, high school graduates, and expenditures at the elementary and secondary level, and enrollment and degrees at the postsecondary level for the past 15 years and projections to the year 2028. For the 50 states and the District of Columbia, the tables, figures, and text contain data on projections of public elementary and secondary enrollment and public high school graduates to the year 2028. The methodology section describes models and assumptions used to develop national- and state-level projections.

The U.S. PIAAC Skills Map allows users to access estimates of adult literacy and numeracy proficiency in all U.S. states and counties through heat maps and summary card displays. NCES 2020150 2018-19 Common Core of Data (CCD) Universe Files
On April 1, 2020, the National Center for Education Statistics released the 2018-19 Common Core of Data (CCD) Universe Files. These files are the product of the Common Core of Data (CCD) data collection for the 2018-19 school year. Data are reported at state, district, and school levels and include staff counts by professional category, and student membership disaggregated by grade, race/ethnicity, and sex. Also included are school-level counts of student eligible for free and reduced-price lunches.

Following the initial release of TALIS 2018 web report (2019-132) on June 19, 2019, this second volume web report provides key comparative information about teachers and principals in the United States and 48 other education systems that participated in the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) 2018. TALIS is sponsored by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and focuses on teachers and principals at the lower secondary school level (grades 7, 8, and 9 in the United States). TALIS 2018 data are based on teachers’ and principals’ responses to survey questions, and the highlights in the web report cover their backgrounds, work environments, professional development, and beliefs and attitudes about teaching.
