Tissue Chips Orbit Earth for Disease AnswersTissue chip experiments aboard the International Space Station could advance the science of preventing osteoarthritis, resisting muscle wasting and reversing heart tissue damage on Earth.
The NCATS ASPIRE Reduction-to-Practice Challenge is open for submissions. ASPIRE is supported through the Helping to End Addiction Long-term InitiativeSM, or NIH Heal InitiativeSM.
A new NIH initiative led by NCATS aims to make gene therapy development and clinical testing more streamlined and less expensive — and potentially more accessible to millions of people with rare diseases.

Research at NCATS
NCATS research projects and initiatives focus on addressing scientific and technical challenges to reduce, remove, or bypass bottlenecks in the development of new treatments and tests that will ultimately improve human health. The Center studies translation on a system-wide level to accelerate the development of interventions for more than one disease.
Through its research initiatives, NCATS develops new approaches, technologies, resources, and models; demonstrates their usefulness in a specific disease or case study; and disseminates the data, analyses the methods to the larger scientific community.
NIH-NASA Biomedical Research Activities
NIH and NASA are exploring how biomedical research can address the challenges of deep space exploration and benefit human health in space and on Earth.
