NIH Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Professional Judgment Budget for FY 2022 now online

At the July 20 meeting of the Advisory Council on Alzheimer’s Research, Care, and Services, NIA Director Richard J. Hodes presented the NIH FY 2022 Professional Judgment Budget for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias. Titled Leading the Charge: Expanding Collaborative, Cross-Disciplinary Research for the Prevention, Treatment, and Care of Dementia, the report provides an estimate of the funds needed to fully pursue scientific opportunities to treat and prevent these devastating diseases. The report also details the significant progress researchers have made on several fronts—from novel and better biomarkers and testing new drug candidates and behavioral interventions to exploring risk factors and health disparities and advancing comprehensive models of care. In conjunction with the release of the budget and progress report, NIH has updated its AD+ADRD Research Implementation Milestones database to showcase funding initiatives, accomplishments, and highlights of progress toward accomplishing the National Alzheimer’s Plan goal of effectively treating or preventing Alzheimer’s and related dementias by 2025.
