There is relatively little in the project records concerning the damsite geology. The geologic summary, Colorado-Big Thompson Project, states that the reservoir is situated in a local divide area of granite rock. Another reference states that the rock under the dam was jointed granite.
Marys Lake Dikes Dam is a homogeneous earthfill dike system made up of two dikes on the shoreline of Marys Lake 2 miles from Estes Park, Colorado.
