NIEHS 50th Anniversary History and Milestones

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) has come a long way in the last 50 years making environmental health research responsive to the needs and concerns of the American people, and making environment part of the public health debate.

On November 1, 2016, NIEHS celebrated 50 years of environmental health research at NIH.

The NIEHS 50th Anniversary is an exciting and important opportunity to raise public awareness that the environment influences human health and to highlight the improvements to public health that have resulted from environmental health research.

It's also a perfect time to bring together NIEHS staff and alumni, health researchers supported by NIEHS, and the larger public health community for networking, collaboration and celebration.

NIEHS has supported many activities and events commemorating this historical milestone throughout the year. Please see the full calendar of events for a recap of past events.
