Opportunities for Northern New Mexico high school seniors

The High School Cooperative (HS Co-op) Program provides qualified Northern New Mexico high school seniors the opportunity to develop skills and gain work experience, while receiving exposure to a variety of technical and administrative career fields. This popular program provides employability skills and assists local area high school students with the school-to-work transition.

Participants who successfully complete the program may be eligible to receive high school credit from their schools. The participating high schools establish eligibility criteria to receive this credit.

Northern New Mexico students from alternative schooling, including home-schooled students, are also welcome to apply (with guidance counselor approval).

Students have the opportunity to work full-time during the summer between their junior and senior years and may continue the appointment in part-time status during the academic year.

Applicants are screened by designated high school representatives for aptitudes and interests, grade point average, and number of credits toward graduation.

Eligibility requirements

  • Must be a high school senior
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Minimum 3.0 G.P.A. (unless school requires a higher G.P.A. to participate)
  • The Laboratory requires successful applicant to complete a pre-employment drug test.

High school co-op post graduate category

If you are a high school graduate and have not been accepted or enrolled in an undergraduate program, you may be eligible for the High School Co-op Post Graduate category.

Post Graduate students may move to UGS status when documentation is provided indicating acceptance into an undergraduate program.

How to apply

All interested students must submit an online application. The application link http://www.lanl.gov/careers/career-options/jobs/index.php is available February–March each year. Applicants also need to submit a resume, a current unofficial transcript, and a one-page Statement of Interest (why you want to work at LANL). All applications must be coordinated with the High School Co-op Program contact from each school.
