Introduction to the Modernized Water Pollutant Loading Tool

EPA is improving access to the Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) Pollutant Loading Tool. You can now access it on the Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO) website. The Loading Tool is designed to help users determine who is discharging, what pollutants they are discharging and how much, and where they are discharging. The tool calculates pollutant loadings from permit and DMR data and offers a variety of ways to customize searches. The ECHO version of the Loading Tool has a similar look and feel as the current Loading Tool website, with some usability improvements. Learn how to navigate and use some of the common Loading Tool features in ECHO.

ECHO CWA Biosolids Facility Search Webinar

This webinar demonstrated the new ECHO Facility Search under the Clean Water Act (CWA) National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Program Area Biosolids. With the implementation of the NPDES Electronic Reporting Rule (eRule), facilities in the 42 states where EPA implements the Federal Biosolids Program began submitting electronic reports for the first time. The new electronic Biosolids Annual Report standardized the reporting format.

The ECHO Biosolids Facility Search is a new feature, available to both government and public users, that integrates Biosolids Annual Report data with other biosolids enforcement and compliance data. It provides access to biosolids-specific permit, inspection, violation, enforcement, and penalty related data to users for the first time in an easy-to-use search tool. The demonstration will highlight navigating the Biosolids Facility Search form, search results, and Biosolids Annual Report data download. Note that this webinar was not recorded.

Advanced ECHO Webinar: Water

This webinar focused on using various water tools available on ECHO, including the Water Facility Search, Effluent Charts, Detailed Facility Report, and newly-modernized DMR Pollutant Loading Tool. Two case studies demonstrated how ECHO can be used for advanced analyses of permitted water facilities. The first case study used the DMR Pollutant Loading Tool to identify facilities with the largest discharges that may negatively impact the surrounding environment. The second case study used the ECHO Water Facility Search and Map Filter tools to identify facilities with a large number of violations and without a recent inspection.

Intro to ECHO Map Filter Webinar

This webinar introduced the new ECHO Map Filter tool. Map Filter brings analysis of cross-program and Clean Water Act dischargers into a simple map-based format, which makes it easy to turn facilities on and off and change search criteria without returning to the original search form. The tool also adds further area context by including the ability to add various map layers, such as schools and impaired waters.

Intro to the Acts in ECHO

This one-hour webinar was the first in a series of Spring 2016 webinars that took us back to the basics in EPA's ECHO website. We looked into the origin of the acts for which data are found in ECHO -- the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. With a better understanding of where these acts came from and why the permits and violations are so important to track, searches on ECHO can become deeper and even more questions can begin to be answered. After understanding the foundation of the acts, we highlighted ECHO tools that are sometimes overlooked or underused.
