First Responder Safety

Our first responders protect motorists on the road. Too often, however, it is our first responders who need protecting, as they are injured or killed while on a busy road or highway.

Together with our law enforcement partners and State Highway Safety Offices, NHTSA is working to increase awareness of life-saving laws, such as “Move Over,” in order to better protect our first responders who place themselves at risk to save lives on the road.
