The VIN (vehicle identification number) is a unique number assigned to a vehicle. On cars and light trucks made in 1981 or after, it is 17 characters. You can locate your VIN on:
- The driver's side of the dashboard (where the dashboard meets the windshield)
- The inside of the driver's door, on the door post (where it latches)
- Your insurance card
- Your vehicle title and registration
